When you have a need hiring an event photographer, no matter it's a corporate event, conference, or internal meeting, you may wonder how can you hire one who meets your needs. We are providing these tips to help you make a decision!

1. Portrait photographer's competency is not same as event photographer's
If you search google by key words such as "photographers near me", "photographers in Houston", or some sort. Chances are that the search result may end up mostly showing portrait photographers' websites. However, shooting event photography needs a totally different mentality, skills, and experiences than portrait photography. Unlike portrait photographers, who work along his or her own path and take time to setup lights, guiding poses and take the photos, event photographers, on the other hand, normally work in fast-path environments and mostly held indoor with low-light situations. Therefore, better google keywords to use for finding an event photographer should be more specific like "corporate event photographer in Houston", "best event photographer" , "award-winning event photographer", "conference event photographer", etc.

2. Check out what previous clients say about the event photographers
Reviews are important to help you understand the quality, the attitude, the service, and even personality of an event photographer. Learning reviews early about what an event photographer has given from previous clients will make you comfortable in selecting the right event photographer. Also, you may want to make sure those reviews are all from the real customers.  

3. Event photographers are not all the same
Say, you have found some event photographers' websites, the next thing you need to learn is to see their experiences in handling the event types you are looking for. Shooting a large event like multi-hundred, multi-thousand attendants corporate, conference, or trade show event, the required skills and experiences for the event photographers are different than a small event like birthday parties, baby showers, milestone celebration, retirement parties, wedding showers, etc. 

4. Knowing your specific requirements and/or expectations before requesting a quote
You may have information on hand when contracting event photographers. Such information may include date, time, and location, etc. Expectations may be like delivery timeframe, photo format, purpose of the photos to be used, photo licensing, non-disclosure agreement, etc. Also, the size of event will help the event photographers to frame the scope of work. All these information will ultimately make your inquiries more efficiency without back and forth communication.    

5. Quality talks by itself and price reflects the value of your event
Sometimes, you may wonder how much investment you would like to put for hiring an event photographer. Experienced event photographers charge based on the quality they can provide. It is important to know that their prices are also associated with the value of your event. If your events are for marketing or press release purposes, the most bargain or inexperienced event photographers may not fit your needs. It's always better having quality photos rather than photos that have no value in marketing your brands, companies, or events. To the contrary, if you seek to hire event photographers without breaking a bank, top-notch, experienced photographers may not necessarily be your option. However, there is no harm to ask though.

6. Hire a story-telling event photographers
Event photography is about to capture decisive moments, powerful expression and joyful spirit, able to snap in action and freeze the emotions. Hire event photographers who can tell your story of the event rather than taking posed photos. So, your event photos will be timeless and most memorable.
